No need for intros. Here are the best metal tracks from the past week – in my humble opinion…
1. Memphis May Fire – Bleed Me Dry
Texas metalcore greats Memphis May Fire are at it again with another pounding, ultra-melodic number, Bleed Me Dry. The third single from their forthcoming, yet-untitled seventh album – after Death Inside and Blood & Water, Bleed Me Dry kicks off with a vast, octave-laden opening riff, before frontman Matty Mullins enters the fray with a series of supremely catchy vocal hooks. This one’s a knockout.
Wage War – Circle the Drain
Drop-tuned electric guitars, earworm vocals, killer-sounding production. What’s not to love here? Following High Horse, the markedly heavier first single from the Ocala metallers’ fourth album Manic – which arrives October 1 – Circle the Drain sees Briton Bond take a more anthemic stylistic direction. Don’t worry though, there’s a killer breakdown at the 2:17 mark that’s sure to kick the mosh pits back into overdrive.
Butcher Babies, Escape the Fate – It’s Killin’ Time, Baby!
Butcher Babies and Escape the Fate – two metal giants in their respective subgenres – team up this week to deliver a brand-new single, It’s Killin’ Time, Baby! After kicking off with a suitably violent sample of dialogue from George A. Romero’s Night of the Living Dead, this track serves up plenty of drop-tuned riffage over a bountiful supply of sweet grooves.
Eskimo Callboy – We Got the Moves
Metalcore’s a well-established genre, but plenty of acts are keeping it fresh. Take Eskimo Callboy, for example. Hailing from Castrop-Rauxel, Germany, this six-piece fuse the hallmarks of metalcore – drop-tuned guitars, guttural screams etc – with elements of electronic music, like hardstyle-esque synths and four-to-the-floor electronic kick drums, and they do it to impressive effect on their latest track, We Got the Moves.
Imminence – Ghost
Swedish metallers Imminence this week unleashed Ghost, the third single from their forthcoming new album. If you’re a metalcore fan – which I presume you are if you’re reading this – there’s no way you won’t love this. It’s got it all – delicate melodies interwoven with savage breakdowns, killer guitar riffs and an unreal vocal performance from Eddie Berg.
